What is ASTM?

All Steel Toe Pros safety footwear meets standards certified by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). These standards are similar to the standards used prior to 2005, when they were monitored by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

The American Society for Testing and Materials (now called ASTM International) began at the end of the last century with a group of scientists and engineers. They met to try to address the budding railroad industry's problem with breaks in their rail lines. The Society grew to become a major source of voluntary standards for the whole world. Its covers many industries like aviation, construction, and farming. Products range from tires to cement to vacuum cleaners to footwear. Regarding footwear, they standardize requirements for protections like static dissipation, electric shock resistance, puncture resistance, and chain saw protection.

ASTM International is composed of approximately 30,000 members from over 120 countries, and is headquartered in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Their mission is to enable health and safety, contribute to the reliability of products and services, and promote international commerce.
